Bricked Flash Drive?

I have a SanDisk USB drive, and I tried reformatting it the other day. It told me it couldn’t write to the partition table.

Now if I go into Disk Utility and try “Erase”, I get

Unmounting disk
Erasing
Couldn’t open device

I’ve rebooted a few times. I can’t mount the disk either.

Does anybody have any ideas about how to recover from this? Or is the drive just toast?

It shouldn’t be an age/wear thing, as the drive is only a few months old - and it’s only been written to maybe a few times total. Just a few OS installs.

Thoughts?

Take it back for a warranty replacement. Flash storage is less forgiving of media defects than magnetic drives. It might well be dead, with little hope of getting fixed.
