Bulk export of Apple Notes on iOS! Yes, possible!

Just read the thread from Reddit above about the export by drag and drop to Files app: I tried and it works! You can bulk export without Mac and third-party apps, but the format is .rtfd

Although it is still different from 1-click export, at least the export is not as difficult as expected.

I just found a note with pdf fully carried strange characters. Other notes look okay.

On the other hand, how can rtfd files be made use of? I remember on Mac you can extract all the attachments inside too.

According to Wikipedia

Mac applications that support RTF and RTFD include Apple’s TextEdit and Pages, and a third-party free program called Bean.

If you are on iOS (or iPadOS), which don’t have TextEdit, then I would try Pages.

I also realized rtfd may not be well supported on Windows, but for the sack of backup only rtfd may be fine.

I have been using an app called Exporter for years… keeps any folders I may have set up as well as the notes and attachments

Great tip!

The one downside I noticed is documents scanned into Notes cannot be exported this way. In fact, the only way I found to export them on Mac was as a PDF and that doesn’t export the entire image if it is too long.

BTW I just discovered that iOS 18 no longer displays a camera button in AN. You have to tap the Paperclip icon to see the camera, attach file, record audio, etc. options.

Apple really needs to provide a way to back up Apple Notes. I stopped using it, except for temporary notes, because there is no easy way to recover a note after 30 days.
