Hey Folks
I have a 2019 27 Imac. It is rocking 40ram and an SSD. It is also getting really slow lately. I know it’s getting old but I’d love to get more out of it if I can.
Any suggestions of what might help. Is more ram going to fix things? Is there a good app to look for what is slowing it down?
It’s especially sluggish around iCloud access and the mail app. Surprisingly photoshop and audio editing are not that bad.
iCloud access and Mail (especially fetching new mail) are mainly affected by slow Internet performance while Photoshop and audio editing are local and mainly affected by CPU performance. So it seems to me that you have an Internet access problem. Have you run something like Ookla Speedtest to see if you access is up to snuff?

As always it depends what you use your computer.
I’d be tempted to rebuild your mail database (you can google how to do this)
Absolute worst case, computers gather cruft as you use them, so it may be worth backing up your data and rebuilding it from scratch.
This is never a bad thing to do but takes time, you need to ensure you have backups of all of your data, details of all licenses installed and to check that anything you have downloaded from the Mac App Store is still available. Also worth taking screenshots of any app setting screen.
