I have tried every idea out there including AI help and nothing is unlocking the vertical or horizontal lock that is occurring in Screen Grab with the selection tool. It will only go in one direction or the other but not both axis at the same time to form a box. really need a solution for this. I am on a Mac mini M5 with Mac OS Tahoe 26.3
Welcome to the MPU community! I am not 100% sure if I followed correctly.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish? So, you are taking a screenshot?
It should work just fine:
- Press and then release these three keys together: Shift, Command, and 4. The pointer turns into a crosshair.
- To select the area of the screen to capture, click and hold your mouse or trackpad button while dragging the crosshair. Then take any of these actions:
- To take the screenshot, release the mouse or trackpad button.
- To cancel the screenshot, press the Esc (Escape) key.
- To move the area you selected without changing its size, press and hold the Space bar while dragging.
Via Take a screenshot on Mac - Apple Support
This way you will end up with whatever “screen grab” you want to have.
Or is it about copying text from that screen grab? It does work most of the time. I did a little test. I did take a screen grab from your post. I edited it afterwards so that I have your post rotated 90% on the right and horizontal like it actually is:
I opened the PNG in Preview. I was able to select the vertical text. Copying and pasting it into a text editor worked just fine. I was also able to do the same with the horizontal text. No issues. You just have to move your mouse pointer to the beginning of the text. It should change to a mouse pointer depicting a cursor. Then, you should be able to select and copy the text. It can only be done in steps: it is either the horizontal or the vertical text. You can’t drag and drop a selection above everything and then copy the text. But if you are doing it one after the other, it should work.
Sorry if I did not understand you correctly. ![]()
Do you mean M4? I don’t think M5 Mac mini exists yet?
