Cannot drag application windows on Tahoe 26

After installing Tahoe 26 on my macbook pro M1, I can no longer drag application windows on the screen. They open at the center and I cannot move them anywhere with the mouse… Anyone has the same issue? I don’t see the problem on the Mac Mini M1…
Secondly I see the finder menu bar top left on the menu bar on my mackbook, even if other applications are open.
I restarted in safe mode, I reinstalled macOS Tahoe 26, but still the issue is there, both in the 26.0 as well in the 26.1 beta.

I’m scratching my head a little. Maybe take a look at Settings > Desktop & Dock under the Windows setting to see if there’s something odd there?

I connected a mouse to my MBA and dragging application windows works fine, so I don’t see this issue.

The Finder menu will always appear when other applications are open if none of the other applications are selected, such as if you click the desktop (which is actually part of Finder).

Your description reads like the device is stuck in Mission Control view, with the Dock floating on the left.

But it doesn’t make sense how the device would be frozen that way.

I have the same issue on my Mac M1 and thought that the last update would fix it but nothing. This thing is driving me crazy and messing with my productivity. No solution so far.

Yep, I’m on an M3 and have been facing similar issues. Killing Windowserver process all together, with forced logout and all, has resolved it for now.

Update: Bartender 5 appears to have been the main culprit here. Once I killed that, everything began behaving more normally. I also have stopped most electron apps launching on login, and that’s helped too.

Even with mouse I have the same issue. Active applications are overwritten in the menu bar with the Finder menu…

After killing the windowserver I could drag windows for a few seconds and then again all was blocked on their location. I removed Bartender as well, but still no definitive solution.

What finally worked so far is removing all my login items, restart the MacBook, and add them manually to the login items again. So far no issues as described in my first post. Hope this will help some others as well. Thanks for all the feedback.

I find that its important to sometimes find the right spot on the title bar to “grab” the window to move it. The LHS of Safari above the left Navigation Pane never works, typically it only works to the right of the URL? In between Icons?

For me it works anywhere between icons. If I’m careful I can grab it just above or just below the navigation pane as well.

For me, It might also have something to do with having to use a Displaylink adapter for > 1 external display
