Capital one cards not accepted in Apple Pay on new Macs

I just got a new Apple Mac Studio and attempted to add my Capital One QuickSilver MC to Apple Wallet & Apple Pay was not able to get beyond Capital One verification.
I then proceeded to call Cap1 Support and was told that adding cards to new “Computers” is no longer supported, on MacOS but still apprently possibe on Apple iOS (iPhone & iPad).

IMPORTANT: Older Macs even running the lastest Golden Gate like my older Mac Studio M2 where this card has been active for 3+ years are grandfathered in and will continue to function.

Though frustrating enough, I’m also annoyed that customers were not notified, and that the Apple Wallet & Apple Pay send you on a loop:

Apple Pay / Payment Cards
1 Add a card
2 Verification required and the only option is to call 888.378-9849
3 Upon calling, a recording states that I should choose Cap1 Mobile App verification method, which is not a choice, and hangs-up…not cool.

This is clearly either a disagreement between Apple and Capital One, not a technical issue as per.

Capital One does not have an explanion as to why, hoping Apple does. Either way Capital One is loosing this 18+ years customer.

Hope this saves others time and frustration.

Thanks for letting everyone know, I guess I am glad I use Chase.

I found an old comment online that mentioned You can’t add virtual cards to digital wallets like Apple Pay or Google Wallet or use them in a merchant’s physical storefront.

Do you think that could be the problem?

Interesting

I suspect they will eventually reverse course

Card issuers and merchants clearly are not happy with Apple’s fees, but Apple Pay has so much of the market it is arguably a necessity to join in.

Even WalMart surrendered in its years-long competition with Apple Pay. If WalMart’s scale is not enough to compete with Apple, then what is?

Chase is the same if you do a clean install.

I wasn’t a big Walmart customer until I started ordering groceries, etc. online for delivery, or curb pickup, during covid. I don’t think I walked into a store again until 2024.

When I did, I discovered it has it’s own payment system, and didn’t accept any tap to pay method at that time. I only had my iPhone with me so I didn’t buy anything that day :flushed:

I’m still an online-only Walmart customer.

They finally surrendered

Used my Apple Watch there to pay yesterday. Been that way for about a month now.

I also posted to the Apple Communities and got a response. Check it out if interested

I tried adding a card from CITI and had no issues.

I’ll either keep this cap1 card around and not use it, or will cancel it outright in a month or two.

Possibly something to consider:

This has been a known issue with Capital One for a long time. I can add all my cards on the Mac but Capital One. On iOS no issues.
