I have searched and the other threads on CarPlay do not address this. I have tried everything at this Apple Support Forum, to no avail. Use CarPlay with your iPhone - Apple Support
My Siri Voice does not read the directions in map—as it has done for 4 or more years. I have an after factory model of CarPlay (car is 2018–became standard the year afterward). We recently took a short trip and used Waze and the Waze voice (which is very annoying) worked fine.
Anything else I should try?

Check to ensure the audio wasn’t accidentally muted if you haven’t already.

Audio failures happen from time to time on iPhone and CarPlay. (Mac, too, for that matter.) I fiddle around and it comes back, but I often have no idea what was wrong or what was fixed. Good luck! 
OMG!! My Australian male Siri is back! So weird because he was working fine in other apps. FWIW, the volume button is not obvious on the CarPlay maps app!!

I’ve never used Car Play, but when I could not hear turn by turn directions on my new iPhone (even when the phone volume was at 100%) I found a volume setting in Settings/Maps/Spoken Directions.
Changing that from “Normal” to “Louder” fixed my problem in Apple Maps & Google Maps as well as Waze.
Ditto. When maps in CarPlay lost it voice for me, it was the phone, not CarPlay or the car where the glitch in settings occurred.
