Carrot Weather for Mac -- Subscription?

After v 5 was released for iOS and iPadOS I tried Carrot Weather again. While I did not care for earlier versions, version 5 changed my mind so I purchased the app and subscribed.

I’m considering purchasing the Mac version (still v. 4 but I expect that an update for the Mac will be released at some point).

I have a premium subscription to Carrot Weather on my other devices. Is a subscription for the Mac version required or will my iOS subscription apply to the Mac version?

I have the Mac version, and I didn’t have to pay a separate subscription. The menu bar utility is really useful.

Thanks, based on that I’ll go ahead and purchase the Mac version. Much appreciated.

Yeah picks up the same subscription as your iOS devices.

Is the desktop app still worth getting? Not a big fan of buying an app just to have to pay a subscription to it too

@Maggoteye reopened this post. The quote above freaked me out—then I read the date of your original post. :grinning:

I asked about the Mac app in August, this is the reply I received:

The native Mac app is still at v4. I’m working on converting the iOS app to a native Mac app, then it will go to v6. If you have a newer Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or M2 chip), you can download the new Mac app for free here.

Through further correspondence I learned the current new Mac app is the iPad app, running on Apple Silicon Macs. It has a way to go to be feature complete with the old Mac version in my opinion.

For this, and because a longstanding bug I’ve corresponded about is still not fixed (despite assurances it would be), I do not plan to renew my subscription. Note that for weather apps, which incur a cost for my use of the app, I do not mind a reasonable subscription. But it is readily apparent that the Mac is not a priority here.

That made me laugh! :joy: I can understand why that would have freaked you out. :grinning:

I’ve stopped subscribing for the same reason. The developer is quick to assure updates are coming for both the Mac and Android, but it’s not been the case for years. Looks like the only priority is the iPhone.
