Is there something different about Catalina than previous releases that is delaying software compatibility? Two major apps I use (Finale for music notation and ProPresenter for projection) still have yet to announce compatibility.

I don’t know what the specifics are for the apps that you mention, but the general overall consensus is that whole beta process for Catalina was a mess, which I believe has made everything slower and more difficult.

Not to mention the requirement to remove 32-bit code, which is not that easy for some developers

Just the other day Native Instruments touted that “most” of its software was Catalina-compatible. 
Makes me a little nervous as I was thinking about giving a relative a keyboard/NI bundle that’s on sale; I need to investigate all the apps in the bundle now before making my decision.
