Command Line Tools for Xcode 26.3

I am getting a notification to update the Command Line Tools. I’ve clicked “Update now” 3 times and it never completes. I’m running Tahoe 26.3.1
I can ignore it but my OCD is bothered. Thoughts?

Maybe one of the manual installation instructions in this topic helps?

Same thing is happening to me. Notification just started showing up within the past week. I don’t have any developer tools installed and have no idea where this came from. Only thought is maybe my trial of Apple Creator Studio might be causing it.

AI says no harm no foul, but I really don’t want to install a 850MB file or app if: (1) I don’t need it, and (2) I don’t know where it came from.

I tried removing Xcode and the command line tools. I was successful to remove Xcode. I went through all sorts of recommendations to remove the command line tools and the notice. All to no avail. I ended up letting the update install (on Sequoia 15.7.4). It took a few attempts.

Do you use Homebrew?

That requires the Xcode Command Line Tools:

I just want to get rid of it. . don’t understand why it stops just shy of installing.

I asked ChatGPT how to get rid of it and got a terminal line to put in–restarted and it is gone! sudo rm -rf /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools
Hopefully that doesn’t screw anything else up

And. . . it’s back. . . .GRRR.
