Have you tried TypeWhisper? It’s a free Al-powered dictation app that rivals Wispr Flow and the other apps. You can store you LLM locally or on the cloud, so your dictations stays private. I’ve been using it for a few weeks, and like it. The developer is very responsive to feedback and bugs!
Like most of you, I’m really on the fence about this app. When I initially started using it, I didn’t really care for it, but it’s now grown on me and I find myself using it very often. I love that it’s local and my data doesn’t leave my computer. But, I don’t know if I can stomach the price.
My favourite experience with Cotypist was when I was struggling to find the words to describe something technical … but then Cotypist started filling out the words in front of me (tab, tab, tab) and it then used some of my own Intellectual property (which I’d forgotten about) to explain what I couldn’t easily explain.
That was magic!
I noticed the same thing, but I’m actually slightly worried about it, as I will lazily choose words that it suggests, though they’re not exactly the words that I would choose. I fear losing my own voice, but gaining speed.
Just had a broadcast email from Cotypist. Looks like he is reacting a bit to the poor feedback… “A few of you wrote back with the same worry…”. (I bet it was more than a few!)
Pricing has been reduced so the ‘early access’ price is now the regular price. Early access people now get 3 months free if on an annual plan.
None of this is very generous and will probably not resolve the issue of general discontent around pricing I think.
Maybe I’m thinking of another app, but I vaguely remember a survey sent to beta testers about pricing. If I’m thinking of the right app, perhaps only the most enthusiastic users responded, giving a skewed view of what might be viewed as acceptable by users.
I too was a little surprised with the pricing, but thought the improved pricing was fair. I went ahead and gave it a go with the Pro plan. I find it highly useful.
Ive signed up to it since I’m happy to pay for subs that are helpful, but in practice, at that price I’m bound to switch to another app if/when something comes along. So I guess it’s up to the dev whether that’s a concern or not.
