Create reminder from an email - possible?

On my iPhone, running iOS 18.+ I would like to create a reminder of certaini emails that I receive. Is that even possible via the native mail app? Or can this be done via Shortcuts somehow?

Yes this can be achieved using shortcuts automation. As far as I’m aware though, there’s no way manually do what you’re describing on an iPhone though.

You can do this: highlight the subject line of the mail (or part of it) and choose Share to Reminders. It’ll create a Reminder with the highlight as the subject and a link to the email.

No sure if that’s what you wanted

@jensjakobsen, in addition to highlighting the subject line per @ThatGuy, you can drag an email to Reminders, and a link will be automatically created.

There are several posts on this topic. One of the more recent is here.

I thought that was only possible on the iPad!

No, it works well on the Mac as well. :slightly_smiling_face:

Well, yes but the question was specifically on the iPhone. I remember now being able to drag an email to a reminder but I remember having to hold onto the email with one finger while I found where reminders was, created a new one and then dropped in the right location. Much easier on iPad

Indeed, trying to drag and drop on the iPhone requires a Houdini-esque maneuver. :slightly_smiling_face:

Things has the ability to forward an email to a magical email address and it adds to your Inbox with the subject as the title of the task and the body of the email in markdown in the note.

The benefit of this is that this isn’t limited to Mail.app (which my work won’t let me use) and the text of the message is in the task. I usually edit the body during my end-of-day clean up and ready to go.

I wish I could do the same in Reminders.

I know, OmniFocus does the same thing. The ability to convert an email to a task by sending the email (or bcc’ing it) to a Things or OF email address is the feature that keeps tempting me back to OF. :slightly_smiling_face:

Woah. :exploding_head::exploding_head::exploding_head:

I think you could hack something like this together! Since you can run AppleScripts on a Mac that execute when you receive emails that match a specific rule, you could setup a rule in your mail provider to auto forward to a sub address (I.e. in Gmail adding +anything before the @ will still be routed to your email but easy to filter.) and then have an AppleScript to run on each email that executes a shortcut to extract the subject and body into a new reminder.

There’s also IFTTT (and zapier and Make) which can easily do this as well Create new todo with an email - IFTTT

Exactly! It has to be on a iPhone - thanks :hugs:

Hmmm - not sure this one fits. Prefarably I would use the share button to run a ShortCut.

The communication trigger relies on certain rules, which is really not my intention.

I use Siri for this: I activate Siri and say, “Remind me about this on [Monday at 10:00].” Siri then creates a reminder using the email’s subject as the title and includes a link to the email.

This works on iOS but not on the Mac.
