I’m currently working through a huge media file cloud backup provider migration and the file dates (the ones that Finder uses) all changed to the day of the migration instead of the original date. I also am aware that my future self will probably migrate again and that the various OS’ I use will shift so I can’t go with an Apple-only scheme. For media I am using “YYYY-MM-DD_HH:MM:SS” format in the name. But about half the media has “IMG” or “VID” or “Pxxx” as the file name. Fortunately most of those have some sort of date buried in the metadata.
But once I have the metadata fixed I intend to add descriptive text to everything. I’m guessing I won’t put that in the file name as my total path/file is getting quite long. I’ll use a metadata field. And I’m definitely bringing AI in on this to help me work through the checks notes 80,000 or so files I migrated…
Is there a way to paste it with a voice command?
Click on the “i” and then, this is what it looks like on Sequoia, when selecting “Use as Quick Action”. The Receive action will appear as the irst step in your shortcut.
In the „set variable“ action click on the „Name“ and make sure it is set to „File“ („Datei“ in my screenshot) as the type.
See my screenshot again for reference where to look - German again but highlighted the field to look at.
Hope that helps?
I fought this battle a couple of years ago when I had a stretch where I used my iPad heavily each day. I eventually resigned myself to creating a text replacement (in keyboard settings), and just changing the expanded date at the start of each day.
