Do I have to throw away my relatively new Brother HL-1210W? Unfortunately, it doesn’t support macOS 27.
Unfortunately, the Brother HL-1210W no longer works with macOS 27. It works perfectly fine on Linux. The printer isn’t very old—it was released in 2013 and works without any issues. I see this as an environmental issue; I don’t want to throw away products that still work.
Reinstalling Rosetta should be a fix good enough for another year. Maybe Brother will provide an official fix in the months to come. Apparently they have announced an update until September 2027 (I get notifications about Intel-based apps on my Mac with Apple silicon. | Brother), which should be just in time for macOS 28. Otherwise… See the post.
Good luck!
Disclaimer: I do not know the website I linked to, be careful with downloads.
I’ve read about other folks setting up a tiny raspberry pi (or something similar) as a print server. That might be a way to prolong the life of your printer. AirPrint to the raspberry pi, and let the pi run the actual printer.
I had a similar issue with my Canon MX870. Here are two links to consider. I installed the driver from the second link (GitHub). It worked essentially as native.
I just ordered a Canon Pixma for my studio to spot check proofs, and am glad I saw this thread before I installed the driver or updated to macOS 27. Thank you @DrJJWMac!
