Hi
Do you know tidbits.com? Review?
You can only register at the Forum when you pay? Is this correct?
I registered for tidbits talk without paying a few years ago.
Where have you read that you have to pay?
TidBITS is a great resource for information about everything Apple, run by Adam and Tonya Engst. I have been a frequent reader for years.
Their comment system lives within a Discourse instance called TidBITS Talk.
Everything is “free”. You can support the creators and the community through different membership tiers. You do not need to, but you can. I have gotten so much value out of their coverage that I have decided a few years ago to support them, although I do not really participate in the TidBITS forums (I have an account, but I am not really active).
If I’m seeing correctly, it looks like you might have to subscribe to email updates for their articles to register for the forum.
Log in to make comments, manage email subscriptions, and see member benefits. To create an account, enter your email address in the subscription box at the end of any article.
That seems like a light bit of gatekeeping rather than a paywall.
You don’t have to pay to post.
TidBITS is the oldest Mac digital oublication, as in decades old. It’s fabulous.
You can set it for no email. You can read via RSS.
Maybe I’m just clueless, or maybe my ad blocker is blocking too much. How exactly can I register on the forum? I can’t find a way to do it without paying.
Thanks. My ad-blocker did filter this in Safari and Mullvad Browser.
Huh, that’s registering for a newsletter; not registering on a forum?
What am I missing?
it was working. After that I could register for the forum
This is actually what the website is saying, which is a sort of confusing design indeed.
Yes, I saw after trying to turn off Wipr 2.
Just hang tight. Adam is a super guy. TidBITS is one of the best, and kindest forums on the 'net.
If you were anything like rude, or antagonistic, your post would not meet their guidlines. You could always contact them and ask.
I’m never rude or antagonistic. So that can’t be it.
