Probably like most of us, I go through the daily routine of hitting “Delete and Report Spam” on Messages and Voicemail several times a day. (Never make your personal phone your business phone if you’re a sole proprietor.)
It seems like an small but endless treadmill. I wonder if Apple / Verizon actually does anything about this dreck, or did Apple just give me a button to press for jollies.
I’ve wondered too because I seem to be getting a ton of “your loan has been approved messages”. I have my phone set to send unknown callers to voicemail.
I think it depends on the carrier, as Apple does not run the mobile network.
Over here (Germany), that option apparently is not available for all carriers (I am not 100% sure). I am a Congstar customer (basically a brand of Deutsche Telekom). I have to say that after reporting a spam call using that iOS mechanism, I never have gotten the same spam call twice or a different one from the same sender. Which, of course, does not mean that I did not receive different spam calls or messages from others after reporting a spam call or a message.
in the UK, my carrier O2 collects these. They are sent on to the government cyber-fraud people and I have heard rumours of accounts being closed and numbers being frozen, but that stops the spammers and scammers for the brief moment it takes them to clone some more accounts or numbers, and does not work at all for the vast bulk of this, which originates “offshore”.
