Dory is an app switcher for anyone who forgets keyboard shortcuts five seconds after learning them

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a new app I just released called Dory. It’s an app switcher that lets you quickly cycle through your open apps without taking your hand off the mouse - and without having to remember any shortcuts.

  • Click your middle mouse button - or the right Command key if both hands are on the keyboard - and type the first letter of the app’s name.
  • If multiple apps share that letter, just keep tapping it to cycle through them.
  • You can also press the middle mouse button and start typing the app’s name directly.
  • Dory works right out of the box - and over time, it learns which apps you use most and prioritizes them.

No custom letters.
No extra shortcuts.
No setup. Nothing to remember.

You can try it out here. It’s currently free .

Clever name! I will go take a look.

The icon fits the name

Would you consider some kind of (optional?) “fuzzy search”?

To switch between Fantastical and Fastmate I currently have to type 3 keys (f a n versus f a s); it would be nice if any unique letter in the name would do (so for example f m for Fastmate and f l for Fantastical)

Thanks! I was certain no one would catch that.

I seem to get this error.

Hey,

When exactly do you see that error? Is it when you try to run the app?
Also, is it located in the /Applications folder?

Hey Rob,

I’ve been testing it for a few days now, and hopefully it’ll be included in an upcoming release.

It’s when I’m specifically selecting ‘T’ apps, others seem to be working ok.
Only other issue is 1Password as right cmd + 1 takes me to the first tab / message etc

What apps do you have starting with T? Sounds like the culprit is hiding there.

As for 1Password, I didn’t know that was a thing - I’ll see if there’s a way to ignore it.

A new version is out! Here’s what’s new:

• Added an optional App list popup when switching between apps

• Find apps using the first letter, middle letters, acronyms, or similar names

• Option to launch the app only upon releasing the mouse button or modifier key

Hey @aardy, is it possible the app you were trying to open was a web app (PWA)? Another user ran into this error messege. I’ve uploaded a fix to the App Store.
