Download episode from Overcast to other application?

Hi guys,

Do any of you know if it’s possible to download the mp3 file from Overcast?
Eg from the web URL (which in this case is: Partiet och sakfrågan: KD och värderingarna — Fredagsintervjun — Overcast).

Other option is to record the episode (eg with HiJack), but that seems a little bit unnecessary.

I want the episode transcribed, that’s why.

Tia,
Andreas

There is an “Export Audio File” feature in overcast!

It didn’t work with Airdrop or to save in on iCloud, I had to email it to myself for it to work though…

Add the RSS feed for the podcast into an RSS reeder and it should just be there? I tested with inoreader and the rss feed of Kvartal and it was attached.

I regularly transcribe podcasts and videos. I’ve found that the easiest way to do it is to paste the link into a service like TurboScribe rather than fussing with downloading mp3s. TurboScribe has a free tier, but if you have a lot of long files to transcribe, it’s worth subscribing to get them done quickly. I’ve found the quality of the transcriptions—which can include speaker identification—really good. (For English! I don’t know if the quality is a high in other languages.) You can play the track while you read the transcription right on the website and can download the transcription in a number of formats.

Just for fun I threw the episode’s link at TurboScribe’s free tier. You can check out the result here and see if it meets your standards.

Overcast also includes… transcriptions. I’m fairly sure the latest release allows copying text from it, too.

But yeah… last time I needed a podcast transcribed, I just hit the RSS feed and downloaded the file it linked to.

Thanks for the input!
The transcription was good, but it included the commercials and stopped at 30 mins.

My solution in the end was to download the sound file and ask Gemini for help. It did a good job.

But I agree that an online tool wo the need to download etc is more conveniant. :hugs:

I’ve used this as a starting point for my archive of podcasts - GitHub - alexwlchan/overcast-downloader: Download the audio files for every podcast you've listened to in Overcast 🎧 · GitHub

Gemini (or at least the paid version) really is a good tool for audio transcription with speaker diarization. Turboscribe’s paid tier will transcribe long files, but I don’t think it will excise ads.
