Erase Encrypted External SSD without password

I have a 2TB External Scandisk SSD - model# SDSSDE61-2T00-G25. I do not have the password. Is there a way to reformat it to APFS (its current format) without the password? Thanks

If it is not working with the Apple Disk Utility, I would try a PC, that could don’t recognise the APFS format.

I run into this occasionally.

In Disk Utility select “Show All Devices” under View. Then select the SSD, not a volume. Try formatting it as ‘Mac OS Extended’. If this works, format again as APFS.
