External Displays Blinking at Me

At home I use an ASUS MG279 (2560 x 1440) external display connected to my MBPr via HDMI. At the office I use a Monoprice 32in 4K display connected via DisplayPort. Both are set up with my MacBook Pro below the external display. Both displays will blink at me throughout the day – the external screen goes dark for a couple of seconds then comes back on. The ASUS display seems to do it much more than the Monoprice, but both do it.

I thought that it may have something to do with switching back and forth from the Intel HD Graphics 630 and Radeon Pro 560 graphics, but from what I gather now, since the MBPr is plugged in when using these monitors, they are always using the Radeon graphics.

I’m at a loss for troubleshooting this. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Try resetting the SMC controller.

I think this worked. I still get the occasional blink, but the frequent ones have gone away.
