Hi all,
I am having issues with “Find My”. The family have been sharing location for probably 15 years by now and it has been solid. A few weeks back (possibly following a point-update to iOS26), my phone suddenly stopped sharing my location. I am visible in my family’s list of users, but only with a message that “Location could not be found”. Ironically, using the “Find Items” does display the last known location of my iPhone 17 ProMax, so location is available and being shared. I can also see other family member’s location just fine. My location is being shared from both the phone and Apple Watch.
Naturally, we’ve tried everything we could think of. Stop sharing, then re-share location, restart phones, de-activate and re-activate location services, ensure Find My has location access, install the subsequent iOS26 versions, check all settings, visit the Apple Store where the rep couldn’t find any misconfigurations either… so I’m at a bit of a loss how to proceed. If anyone here has an idea, bright or not, I AM going to try it.
Help me, Mac PowerUsers, you’re my only hope!
I have absolutely no idea what you possibly could try apart from what you already have done.
You have done everything:
- Stop sharing, re-share
- Restart your devices
- Messing with location services
- Making sure that Find my has access to location services
- Software is up to date
I think that you have reached a point where Apple has to get its act together. Something might be out of whack on their end with your account, and they need to look into it?!
You are paying money for iCloud, and there is an issue with it. This has to be resolved.

It is pathetic that an Apple Store rep apparently just sent you off without telling you how to get help from Apple.

No, the rep did set me up with an Apple Support phone appointment. I had a call scheduled this morning at 08:15, so no shade on the rep. The call comes in at 08:20’ish. It’s a robot that places me in a queue and keeps me on hold for 30+ minutes, at which point my workday is about to start, so I need to disconnect…
Way less impressed by that support experience, tbh.

So, the chat-support at Apple came through. Seems it was YET ANOTHER place where the sharing setting could be turned off. I seriously doubt I have been in this panel and switched this off myself, but of course, I might have hit that control in error without noticing.
Under “Privacy and Security / Location services / System Services” there is a toggle for “Share My Location” (which of course do not show up when I have searched for “location”). This was toggled to “Off” and correcting that solved my issue.

Maybe. Or some Apple update changed your setting. I’ve been finding things changed after an update or upgrade for years. Recently I found my Desktop and Documents files were being uploaded to iCloud.
The first time I encountered this happening “automagically” was on my executive’s Mac in 2016.

Thank you! I’ve had the same issue for about the same amount of time. Also no way I went into there and turned that off… but it was set to off.
