Finding where a sound came from?

Sometimes there are random little sounds that come from my Mac. They’re undoubtedly from one of the many webpages I have open, or perhaps sometimes from my unreliable bluetooth speakers connecting or disconnecting… or maybe there’s some other app that’s causing them.

I’m wondering if there’s any app that will just tell you what generated the last sound you heard? Or have a log of where each sound comes from?

I’ve not heard of anything which can audit sounds in the system, but @SpivR’s approach is the one I’d use if I was not sure what app. (Hey, I happen to own every single Rogue Amoeba app.)

However, if you suspect it is a Safari tab, that there is an indication in the tab, to right of the title, when sound is playing from that tab.
