I know there has been talk about dictation apps. I’ve tinkered with Wispr Flow and like many have said, the iOS workflow is a pain when they were forced to change it due to an Apple requirement. I wasn’t using it a lot and that pretty much made me stop. I always forget to use it on my Mac. But for me, I much rather had something like Wispr Flow that corrects my mess of talking versus a perfect transcription that I would inevitably have to clean up.
The other day, I read a Fireflies announcement that they are have come out with dictation functionality so I tried it. Right now, it’s only on Mac but they say mobile is coming out. I have to imagine it will be forced into the same issue that Wispr Flow has when invoking it. The thing is that you can use it on the free version. I installed it on my Mac and it’s quite similar to the way Wispr Flow works.
As a side note, it made me rethink about dictating. Previously, I wanted to quickly capture thoughts and Wispr Flow on iOS had that friction. But just the other day, I thought about rethinking that - that it forces me to be more intentional. No doubt, I want to get a quick thought down and there are other ways I can do that and I don’t love thinking of which app I should use when I just want to talk but it’s something I’m rethinking.
