In Keynote, to arrange one object to another, I open the Inspector sidebar, then click the Format tab, then click Align, and then select, for example, Center or Middle or Left etc.
Object A stays in place and Object B moves. And here is my question: How is it possible to tell Keynote which one of these two objects is Object A and which one of them is Object B? That is, how to force it to move “this” object and not “that”?
I tried, example, the following approach. Select one object, then hold down Shift or Command key, then click another object. But it doesn’t solve the issue: Keynote continues to move the object which I would prefer to not move.
I don’t have a Keynote app at hand right now but isn’t there a locking feature for objects that prevents accidental movements? And if you lock one object that you want to stay put doesn’t it work as you would expect?
Sorry if this is totally not helpful, just came to mind
If you align two objects to the left, Keynote will use the left-most object as the anchor point. Align to the right uses the right-most object. If you choose center, both objects will move to a center point equal distance from both.
Locking the object didn’t work in my test. It made the object unusable in an align situation. I could select it, but its position was ignored when aligning the second object, which instead was then aligned with the edge of the slide itself.
As far as I know, there is no way to force Keynote to use one object as the anchor and move the other, but maybe knowing the expected behavior will make it easier to put things where they are supposed to be.
