Forklift - Add holder __here__

I’ve Purchased Forklift, and I like the way it works (reminds me of xtree gold on Windows) but the one thing I can’t seem to do is create a folder inside another folder. It always adds it in the root of the drive I have open.

Does anyone have any tips please?

Just to clarify you’re trying something like you’re in your home folder and you want to create a new folder in downloads by selecting the downloads folder and using ‘create folder’?

I have a folder named “MyDocuments”. If I want to create a folder within this folder, I open MyDocuments, right-click and add a new folder. All within Forklift.

I don’t use Forklift very often but when I do, it works well. Use it when I move a lot of files around. Also use it when I need to grab some files from Backblaze b2. I used to use an old version of Transmit but now use Forklift because it is a part of Setapp and works on par with Transmit for what I do.

If you first double click on the folder in which you want to create a sub folder, it will work as you wish.

I use Forklift a lot and find it useful to transfer downloaded or scanned files to the appropriate folder if they fall outside the Hazel rules I have set up. I have added file renaming options to my favourites. Forklift has many powerful features that are not immediately obvious and I need to spend more time learning them. If you have access, there is a good video by Rosemary Orchard on ScreenCastsOnline.

Exactly this. In Finder I can select a folder and click “New folder” in the toolbar and I get a new folder in the one I selected.

That doesn’t work for me.

It’s doing a great job apart from this.

When I create a new folder in ForkLift, it is always created at the top level of the current folder. So If I want to create a subfolder I need to be in the folder I want the subfolder in.

I think this is what @neonate is saying, you need to be in the folder to create a subfolder. Is that not working for you?

This does not work for me. Thus Finder and ForkLift work the same for me.

OK, I got to the bottom of this. If I use the detail view, there’s no way to add a folder in a chosen location. If I switch to the column view, I cam by clicking on the parent and then hitting new folder.

Two different views, two different results. .:man_shrugging:
