Hi
I migrated to passwords on Mac and really like it. But there are again and again instances in which I go back to 1Password. Is there a free local passwordmanager into which I import my axported 1Password data as lossless as possible (including CC info etc) so that I can cancel my 1Password subscription?
I strongly recommend Strongbox.
Edit: sorry, I missed the “free” part. One of the multiple Keepass ports should work for you in desktop. See if KeepassX or KeepassXC suit you.
The free version of Bitwarden, which I believe you can run local only if you prefer, though most people use the E2EE cloud syncing, which is similar to 1PW’s.
KeePassXC is great for storing passwords, credit card info, and other data.
Bitwarden. Free, open source, and importantly, a great app.
Thanks - I am trying bitwarden, and it looks very similar to 1password - it also has sync in the free version between devices.
Thanks,
Are there any other ways folks are backing up their 1Password?
I remember Katie (OG MPU host) used to print them out and had it in a secure location.
I’m debating with myself if something like that is the best move, or just sharing my most crucial passwords with my wife’s 1PW instance (though that doesn’t feel as thorough as I’d like).
Any advice would be helpful! Thx
Once a month, I export 1Password to csv then open it in Numbers, protect it with a password, and save it. I delete the csv file.
Putting it into a KeepassXC vault is a no brainer. Its a neat encrypted vault, all in a single file that requires no internet access or account to use Its supported on every platform under the sun and its totally free. Give it a suitably strong password (and keyfile if you want) and you can keep copies on any cloud storage platform you want, or keep a copy on a USB stick in your house.
Hell, you can chuck it inside a Cryptomator Vault to use with cloud drives if you’re really worried, though at this point your backup is more secure than your main account.
These are treat suggestions! Thank you!!
