Freeplane: Mindmapping substitute for iThoughts and Freemind users

I had been heartbroken since iThoughts demise. Craig Scott had created a wonderful product. Thank you.

iThoughts continued to work on my old Mac, but when I moved to the new Mac I couldn’t get iThoughts to work. I tried moving to MindNode but even though pretty for small mind maps. It just wasn’t useful for me with 10s of thousands of nodes that iThoughts could handle quite easily.

Freemind had been abandoned and had some display problems and I got it to compile and solve those (so if anyone still wants to use freemind, I can share with you a dmg that works fine).

But then I revisited freeplane and it has come a long way since I tested it last. It has all the functionality of freemind but now a scripting language in groovy which can virtually do anything. On top of all that, it’s free.

I agree that it’s ugly but it has so much more functionality than MindNode or anything else out there.

Check it out.

Amit

PS: I am sure there are detractors here who will say that freeplane doesn’t fit the Tony Buzan’s definition of a mind map and I say power to them and they can continue to use other products.
