The thesis here is that if AirPods, Inc., were a stand-alone startup it would be the (or one of the) fastest growing startup companies in tech today.
Flip side is that if AirPods were a startup, producing almost magical wireless earbuds but without the integration into the rest of Apple’s ecosystem, without Apples marketing muscle, and without the tremendous sales channel provided by Apple stores, AirPods would not be anywhere near the success that they are.
That said, I understand and agree with the larger point he’s making. There’s a reason Apple keeps harping on their services and wearables businesses. They’re truly opportunities for tremulous growth going forward.
