FYI, Hover sends bogus renewal notices

Just got a bogus website domain name renewal from Hover that my website domain registration will expire 2 days from now and link for payment.

Only “problem” (for them), is that I moved my registration to another company 9 months ago.

Really scammy that they don’t bother to verify a customer isn’t their customer any more and they send a billing notice anyway.

I wonder how many people pay and don’t even realize it?

Are you sure it was from Hover? I’ve been seeing reports of fake domain renewals being sent by scammers.

Same here. Scammers look up the domain registrations and send fake notices to customers. I get these all too frequently.

Yup. I’ve got a few in my spam folder right now.

No, this is real. I had several domains at Hover and I’ve been moving them to CloudFlare because it is cheaper and provides services (free) that Hover doesn’t provide.

So I’ve gotten these before. First time, I called Hover and eventually got to someone that confirmed my domain was no longer with them, but their system doesn’t know that and I can just ignore the warning about the domain expiring.

Needless to say, that confirmed my experience that their service and support has gone downhill since the early days when they were a refreshing alternative to GoDaddy or other churn factories.

My domains are all set up with private registration so no way scammers can email me.

I got those as well last year (and I’m not the only one):

(And yes, they were real - not from scammers)

Got fed up with Hover’s rapid customer service decline last year. Moved all domains over to Porkbun also.
