I’ve been trying to find good apps to let my daughter practice reading individual words. However, the world of looking for good kids apps is a disaster. Any suggestions on apps you like for your kids (in general, for all of us) or for reading words (to help my current problem)?
For us:
Anything Daniel Tiger - works great to keep her happy and they’re at least not terrible. Many aren’t that educational, but aren’t bad either. If they’re on your account, some also take selfies and add to your photos, so you’ll get hilarious pictures as a bonus.
DT Parents - has all the Daniel Tiger songs, helpful for in the moment use. Our daughter also likes just watching all the songs in it.
Here Kitty - fun game where the phone meows and our 4yo hunts for the hidden phone. She LOVES it. Works better on our phones than her iPad.
Disney+ - works great for her. Downside is some things are missing from the kids profile (e.g. Brave), but good to know if I leave the room I don’t need to worry about what she’ll end up watching (looking at you YouTube. FYI to others, don’t install YouTube or leave the room).
Coloring Apps - we’ve got a few coloring apps that she likes - just a blank canvas and she can change the color and crayon vs marker etc.
We’ve had good luck with the Dr Seuss read-along books (ABC, One Fish Two Fish).
Also last I checked the Books app had a ton of Sesame Street read alongs for free.
Khan Academy Kids a big hit in my house as well as Hooked on Phonics, ReadingIQ, ABCmouse.com, Reading for All Learners, and the Dr. Seuss Treasury.
Our kids really like the Endless apps by Originator. They’re really well-designed and always adding new content.
