Has anyone shipped a Studio Display?

Hi there,

I’ve had to move suddenly. My Studio Display is still abroad and I miss it (going back to a 13-inch is also painful.) I still have the original Apple box, but not the cardboard from UPS.

I wonder, would it be easy/difficult to ship? Would it be costly because of the weight? Do I need to ask them to add more protection around it to protect the display and hide the fact there’s an expensive display in the box?

If you have any advice or can share some experience I’d be grateful. I live in Europe by the way.

I have seen people shipping TV overseas. With good protection and clearly labeling as Fragile Handle With Care around the box should be enough. I would still check with the shipping company what are their policies and requirements.

If the people who would be shipping it to you live near an Apple Store, it may be worth them popping in and asking for tips. They may even have an “outside” box they could provide.

What sort of distance are you talking about? With the weight, if it’s a few hundred miles I’d be tempted to drive it.

Mailboxes etc. will usually safely and securely package almost anything for you (including oddly-shaped and sensitive artwork). See if they are available in the countries relevant to you.

Apple stores “recycle” the outer box the same day it arrives.

My old stores would have new products unpacked before we opened for the day. Just before I retired, many computers and TB displays came without exterior packaging. (Just another way to save on shipping costs)

Since it’s a Studio Display, the odds of them having an outer box will be slim to none. They could ask to have one saved for them the next time one comes in, but that might be a few weeks away.

My suggestion is to pack it up in the original box and take it to a Shipping service for another box. I highly recommend they purchase Insurance on the off chance it gets damage during that trip.
