Help Needed: Missing Search Field in ChatGPT on Safari and Firefox

Hello everyone,

I need assistance with an issue I’m experiencing with ChatGPT. While using ChatGPT through various browsers—mostly Safari and Firefox—on both my Apple laptop and desktop (all running the most recent operating systems and browsers), I have noticed that the search field is not appearing as it does on the Mac and iPhone apps.

I have followed instructions provided by ChatGPT without any success. After my MPU outreach, I am considering finding a email for OpenAI.

  • Are others here seeing the search field in browsers?
  • Am I missing a setting to toggle search on/off in browsers?
  • What could possibly be disabling it?

I look forward to hearing from those of you who are users to compare notes and possibly identify a solution.

Cheers,
Neil

Search is only available right now in the app, not on the web.

As an exercise, I asked ChatGPT itself. Here is the reply:

As of my last update, the web version of ChatGPT does not have a built-in web search feature available to all users. The search functionality is available to users with the “ChatGPT Plus” subscription, which includes access to the GPT-4 model with browsing capabilities, allowing them to search the web for real-time information.
