In fairness, they’re giving us proper office chairs with which to sit at said lunch tables, along with a 12” divider between folks sitting opposite one another. At least that way you don’t have to look at the other person’s arms and yet can still exchange condiments when the need arises.

I have visited workplaces that put their devs shoulder to shoulder and sat them across from each other at long tables. This new trend seems to go along with a change in vocabulary, for instance talking about “coding resources” as if they were interchangeable instead of as analysts, developers, and programmers.
Yep — a 21st Century sweat shop. It’s not the job it used to be.
