Hookmark Pal for iPhone and iPad is now available on the App Store

After a long wait, Hookmark Pal has landed on iPhone and iPad:

Unfortunately, the first impressions are underwhelming. The interface feels unpolished, and the user experience is hampered by several noticeable bugs. On top of that, the subscription comes in at $39.99/year, which is hard to justify given the app’s current state.

This iOS debut reinforces the impression that Hookmark, despite its potential, still feels more like an MVP than a fully mature product. A promise left unfulfilled. Quite a disappointment.

I adore Hookmark, but the iOS version never appealed to me. The restrictions of iOS mean that it’s never going to be able to replicate the effectiveness of Mac version. Its a bit like the Raycast companion app, its not the fault of the app as such, its just an uphill battle from the outset.

What are the ongoing costs for this to be subscription based? Not an appealing offer especially considering you can own the macOS variant.

What is a “truly universal bidirectional bookmark”?

You have put your finger on one of the reasons Hookmark has never stuck with me. I kinda don’t understand it.

Universal as in it’s not limited to one app. Bidirectional meaning you can go from app A to app B, or app B to app A.

I haven’t used the iOS version. I find the Mac version handy in a number of areas. I use Things for task management. I can create robust links for a project to an Outliner file with project details. (And also link from that file to the Things item) I also use it for to add email links or other related files. If a file name changes, links still work.

Another example: When I’m working on a project with PDFs, presentations, text files, outlines, spreadsheets, weblinks, etc, I can create a table of contents in OmniOutliner with links to the files and a short summary of each. It helps me stay organized.

I agree with @Atom. The iOS app seems unfinished.
