I’ve got these log-in items still listed, but grayed out, from apps I’ve uninstalled and no longer use. How do I remove them from this screen in the system settings? Anyone know or have some idea?
Allow in the Background items should disappear when they’re fully uninstalled and you quit and restart Settings. I think those applications are still on your Mac. If I’m wrong, places to look for launchers would be the folders starting with launch in the two library folders. The easiest way to get to them is, in Terminal, open ~Library
and open /Library
. Careful in there.
I found this.

The solution is based on an Apple Technical document (linked in the Reddit post).
I didn’t test it myself. Since it involves terminal commands, do it at your own risk.
Thanks; that’s what I’m thinking, too? I uninstalled them, and I guess because of what they are, Hazel couldn’t find them? I’d like a “deep cleaning” app that will go through and find the things that I don’t have or want anymore, but that might be asking a lot of an app!
Thanks; I may give that a whirl, but I’m not sure how comfortable I am mucking around in the Terminal.
Look for the folders:
~Library/LaunchAgents and /Library/LaunchDaemons and /Libary/LaunchAgents
Most of the time you can find the Launch Extensions in those folders.
Also empty the recycle bin after deleting applications and reboot, this sometimes clears up “Allow in the Background”.
If you don’t feel comfortable using Terminal you can reset the items with my app Lingon X (and see more information about each item if you want).
In Lingon X just choose Background Items from the Tools menu and authenticate as an admin. Then press the Reset button and restart after that. And then the previously deleted items/apps should have disappeared from the list. Lingon X uses the “sfltool” command mentioned.
