How "Mainstream" Are MPU Listeners?

For the free apps I use Google Maps a lot, way better than Apple Maps for my area. I also have T-Life installed because T-Mobile is the cell phone service I have but only need the app on occasion. (Later he mentions thinking T-Mobile was in 3rd place for subscribers and seemed surprised. All I can say is he must not travel into the rural west. There is basically no service from Verizon over vast swaths of the western US. The only carrier that is likely to have service in smaller towns is T-Mobile and some of them have ATT. Our nearest Verizon tower is about 11 miles away and behind a hill for much of our area.

Of the paid apps the only one that is close is I have the Skyview Lite free version and use it occasionally. So not paying for it.

Apparently, I’m not very mainstream! I only use Telegram and Instagram from this list because it’s how I communicate with Android users and Gen Z respectively.

Most young people I communicate with don’t give you their phone number, only their Instagram handle. Therfore, I had to eventually give in and install it, despite hating social media.

Free:
Google Maps - I’m the kind of person who scrolls through maps for entertainment.
Gmail (I use the Gmail App on my phone instead of Apple Mail)
Google Gemini (But I’m on the Pro plan)
YouTube - It’s on my phone but I never use it there.
Instagram - Ditto.

Paid:
Paprika - It’s on my phone but I never use it there.

I have five. My notes:

  • ChatGPT is installed, because I was showing my wife how it worked. I only ever actually use ChatGPT on my Mac though, so I just deleted it.
  • Google Maps (as a backup for Apple Maps when it’s acting drunk - hardly ever used, but critical when it’s needed)
  • Instagram (some EDC trading communities are heavy on Instagram)
  • YouTube (we’re “premium” - I have YT and the YT Music)
  • Facebook (mostly for giving away items we’re decluttering)
