I’m curious: how many of these apps do MPU listeners have installed or use regularly?
For the free apps, I only have one, YouTube (and YouTube TV). Now, I do use a few of the services that the free apps represent (I do use FB, but never on my phone; through a convoluted workaround, I don’t even have my FB password available on my phone; I also use Gmail, but through the native Mail.app). But none of the other top apps are on my phone.
For the paid apps, I don’t use Tonal Energy (metronome and tuner) myself, but I have bought it for my kids (violin and piano students), and not only do they find it extremely helpful, but every music teacher who has seen them use it has said something along the lines of, “woah, stop the lesson, what is THAT and how do I get it now?!?!” That’s the only one.
How about you all? Are we, as a group, outside the mainstream?
Other than brief info about users, I know nothing about anyone here. (Well, there is one prolific poster who excels at ongoing confession and revelation.) So, it’s a motley group.
I’ve got half of these installed but only WhatsApp gets used on a regular basis, and that’s to contact our daughter who lives in Bahrain. I much prefer to use a computer and use apps on my phone when there is no other choice. None of my frequently used apps are on this list. Overcast and Waze are probably used the most as they are running whenever I’m in the car.
As to the main question in the thread, I have around 10% of the “top 20”. Which means nothing specific to determine the standards of the group because (hint on how statistics work) I might be an outlier or I might represent the norm.
I use none of the apps listed. I do use Google, Gmail, Youtube and I have tried ChatGPT, but these are all websites for me, not apps.
Some of them I’ve never even heard of, like RedNote, Lemon8 and T-Life.
And I know people in Europe who use WhatsApp and Telegram, but I only use Messages and (reluctantly) FB Messenger. I don’t have the Facebook app installed on my phone, but I do have elderly relatives who equate the Internet with Facebook, and as people approach their 80s you have to go with what they know.
I use none of the listed apps. I do use many of the social platforms on Firefox though. I read years ago the best way to engage with the socials on iOS is the websites on a third party browser. Zuck cant get his claws on your system.
