Does anyone create their own passes to keep in Apple Wallet? I have a barcode that I use regularly for a running event and wanted to create myself a pass and add it into wallet for quick access.
There seems to be various apps available that claim to do this but are there any recommendations for the best approach to use? Many thanks all.
MakePass is one I’ve installed. However it wants a substantial subscription to be driven by Shortcuts. My use cases all involve creating wallet passes from data, not by hand - so I haven’t pursued this (yet).
Curious: How do people feel about sharing data with a 3rd-party (to generate the pass on their server)?
I have used services like these in the past to get into concerts by a scan of my iPhone / Apple Watch instead of using a paper ticket. Theoretically, they could have sold my ticket and I would not get in if the new “owner” arrived at the venue before I would…
Not quite the question you asked, but I store these in a separate app called Stocard which is free. You can add any barcode to it: I have around 20, mostly loyalty cards (Tesco, ASDA, Nectar, Boots…) as well as my library card and the climbing gym’s member card. I like this app precisely because it does store my info on their servers (I don’t consider this sensitive data, YMMV) which means that my wife can install the same app and we have all of the same cards, always updated.
If I stored these twenty-odd cards in Apple Wallet I’d struggle a bit to find the train tickets and boarding passes that occasionally go in there.
Late to this thread, but if anyone’s still looking, i built a free web tool for exactly this: wallewallet.alen.ro No app install or account. No need for Apple Developer certificate. You just enter your barcode data, customize colors/text, and download the .pkpass file. Works with QR, Aztec, PDF417, and Code 128. 38K passes created so far. Might save you time vs setting up Pass2U or the paid apps.
I am a fan of MakePass. No ads. Custom designs. All on device. The Location awareness feature is nice for surfacing the correct card…
The big problem for me are the dynamic QR codes of places like Costco which effectively force you to use their app to create the QR Code of the moment. I am trying to minimize the number of cards that I carry around.
Costco lets you use yor iPhone for their card but having a separate app on the iPhone for every “card” is not as convenient as having everything in Apple Wallet.
