How to see what softwareupdated is updating

Occassionally, like right now, softwareupdated goes crazy in Little Snitch, and I can see that it is downloading many GB of something from Apple, but I don’t know what. I find that annoying. I have checked “Check for updates” and “Install system data files and security updates” in System Preferences, because that is supposed to be a good idea, but nothing else. Little Snitch points to /System/Library/CoreServices/Software Update.app/Contents/Resources/softwareupdated but I find no big files there. Anything I can do to see what was updated?

This isn’t quite it, but you can see an update log in /Library/Receipts/InstallHistory.plist.

Yes, I can see the updates now, thanks, like MRT, so I guess it’s doing what it’s supposed to, although I can’t help but think people ought to be told beforehand that their computer wants to download several GB of files.
