Now that Apple has released the Apple Creator Studio versions of Pages/Keynote/Numbers I occasionally get a prompt telling me that the Apple Creator Studio versions are now available.
I don’t want to subscribe to Apple Creator Studio. Can anyone please tell me how to turn the prompt off?
Ok, so for folks that aren’t interested in Creator Studio but mindlessly clicked on the update button (asking for a friend) and now have both of these in the app list, should those people delete the new one?
macOS refuses to launch the pre-Creator Studio versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote, so I guess we are stuck.
I’m really annoyed at Apple for this. Forcing me to get a version of Pages, etc., that gigs me to buy a subscription that I have no need or desire to own, just to keep using Pages.
I was able to open the old version, albeit with this annoyance. Just for fun, I deleted the new version, and it went away without protest and the old version still works, and auto-opens when I click on a Numbers file.
I tested it and it works. M2 MBA
I don’t know whether it removes the notification if you have the new versions installed, but it stopped the update notifications
Now that we’ve settled that, the question remains as to whether or not other functional updates make 15.1 > 14.5. According to Apple.com, it doesn’t really seem like it. The bulk of the following requires Creator Studio and Tahoe. Otherwise, 15.1 only provides a couple minor changes (at the bottom). All I want is to get rid of that infernal floating “Formula Bar” and I’d be happy with Numbers forever.

The problem with this whole thing is that the “old” apps are not going to receive any updates from here on, and at some point they will stop working. Then what? When I decided to move on from MS Office I tried LibreOffice and I didn’t really care for it. I’m very disappointed in Apple about this situation.
I’m not trying to be argumentative. I watched the video. Am I correct that the only benefit (today) of using the new versions is “a unified look?” And then I have to do a bunch of menu settings to get rid of buttons I don’t need? And I still will encounter content I can’t use (ads) in several places?
You are correct–there’s not much difference thus far. However, moving forward, the 14.x versions will no longer receive updates. Also, there are other minor differences in the 15.x versions, other than appearance.
I felt like Gary’s video stuck a good balance between two possibilities for people who do not plan to purchase the Creator Studio:
if you’re happy using an older version, then do so
if you want to have the latest version, follow his instructions to disable some/all of the paid elements.
Has that been confirmed by Apple? Including security updates?
I was listening for these but must have missed them. I only heard him talk about appearance and matching Tahoe. Have you found those differences worthwhile at this point? I’m most interested in Pages, which I use a lot.
I rarely used Pages and Numbers, but I can almost guarantee that Apple will continue to provide security patches for all its apps. It wouldn’t risk the security of its devices. IMO.
Just last year at least one Pages vulnerability was patched on Mac, iPhone, and iPad.
