Hey, I’ve been using garageband previously but now I don’t need it and I was running out of space so I have uninstalled it. But after the uninstallation I didn’t get enough free space. I think there could be some hidden files still in my Mac that should be deleted too. Please help me to resolve this issue.
There is the obligatory “ad” for CleanMyMac in that article. Apart from that, it does list places where “hidden” files are being located, so that you can do the work manually.
Another thing is to analyze what exactly is taking up the space on your disk. Maybe it is not GarageBand?
A nice app for that is DaisyDisk.
It is not free, but it does not cost much and can be tried for free.
EDIT: I just launched DaisyDisk - I had about 40 GB of “streamed” podcast episodes in an Apple Podcasts “tmp” folder (dating back more than a year). Yes, Apple sometimes does a … job to take care of your disk space.
Hi, you have deleted the application only? If so, yes, it does not give lots of space.
I remember I also deleted “some” instrument files, about 40 GB or so.
I found this informative page about these additional files:
But there are man other sources explain what to do.
I also use the app “AppCleaner” (AppCleaner). Works fine with newest MacOS.
But like always: Double check and be sure what you want to delete. It is very important to have a backup in case something goes wrong.
Yes these files takes too much of space
I think app will delete all the files related to the app, isn’t it? So it is good we should do it manually?
When moving the app GarageBand to the Trash and emptying the trash → only the app is deleted, no other files.
Thats why I use the AppCleaner app (there are other similar apps, but I have no experience in these). AppCleaner shows related files to this app and offers to delete these also.
AS far as I understood you have already deleted the GarageBand app: This app only, and no other files. In this case you have delete e.g. the large “hidden” files manually. The (by @Christian) posted page How to uninstall GarageBand: Mac user guide explains more details where you finde these hidden files.
Hi, just a reminder, and to be sure: Make a backup before deleting. And doublecheck what you are about to delete: Also check that you delete the correct files and/or folders.
It is always a little bit tricky to make changes in the Library or User folders.
Hey, you just have uninstalled the app right? Now you can easily find and delete all the audio and instrumental files that you don’t want, manually. If you have any confusion, how will you find those files? Then you can follow the steps mentioned here. This will help you with installing any third party software or app.
Hey, thanks for your suggestion. I’ve uninstalled the garageband completely using the method mentioned in the guide.
Hey, thank for this guide I’ve deleted the garageband using the manual method. I have not installed the clean my mac app.
Thank you, well I did not need any files but will remember in case of future ![]()
Yeah this same thing was happened with me.
