Just after I hit the button to publish that, I recalled the following words I wrote in 2011. I try to keep them in mind all of the time and like to suggest them to others.
I could add “forum conflict” to the list, I guess.

I really like what you wrote. Well thought out.
One of the things I appreciate about this particular little corner of the internet is that 99.9% of the participants are able to repeat themselves (otherwise known as “champion their positions” ) without being cranks.
And I appreciate the persistence: I wouldn’t have tried NotePlan, for instance, but for the evangelists who kept bringing it up whenever it seemed relevant to do so. It won’t replace Obsidian as a repository for my research notes, but it suits my scheduling and tasks workflow better than OmniFocus or Obsidian (my first OmniFocus replacement) did.
I’ve been tempted by NotePlan (the evangelists almost converted me ), but I can’t (wont) stomach the high subscription. But that is just me.
NotePlan comes with my SetApp subscription, so I’m happy to use it, but I wouldn’t pay $100 per year for it, to be honest. I’d opt for Obsidian instead.
well we made it 23 posts in before the conversation branched off into apps and costs LOL
I rarely delete anything I start typing here. I’m not sure if that is a personality flaw or a superpower ¯_(ツ)_/¯
We don’t meme much here, but this feels fitting:
At least this problem seems to have subsided.
So basically what you’re saying is we’re all a bunch of nazis? You also failed to mention falangists, stalinists, and plutocrats. Educate yourself. I’m literally shaking.
I hereby rephrase Godwin’s Law:
“As an MPU talk thread grows longer, the probability of a comparison between one time purchases and subscriptions approaches 1.”
Great one!
… or about why the iPad is a real computer or not.
You just achieved “1”.
Actually never a problem here even when discussing sideloading apps on iOS, but I remember it well on Usenet years ago.
It’s why I keep coming back even though I’ve not listened to the podcast in years except for the occasional episode based on a guest I fan-boy.
Honestly, the level of knowledge here multiplied by the respect given makes the biggest number, possibly on the whole internet.
Your opinion is bad and you should feel bad!
(But yeah, I could have written your post too)
Also, it’s not showing my Zoidberg tags around that, so you’ll have to fill them in yourself
I don’t mind topics repeating themselves, as long as it doesn’t happen too frequently. I’ve been in forums where every alternate post is some version of the same question and that’s annoying. We don’t do that here.
I agree with what others have said that a repeating topic could be new for someone, and even oldies might have a new thought whilst pondering it, or a conversation can go off in an unexpected direction! We’re not robots following a script after all (OR ARE WE) so no two threads will end up the same.
Also, NotePlan is great
For what it’s worth, I find myself increasingly deleting what I was about to say, but it’s not specific to this forum and I think it’s just because I am old now and tend to ask myself if I’m about to add value to a conversation and/or if I can be bothered to deal with any replies. It’s ok not to add value if you’re just keeping a conversation moving along - this is a social space not a work email - but I think it’s nice to commit knowing you will want to reply to any follow up.
There is also an element of “paying it forward”, for me anyway. I’ve got a lot of tech advice and support via forums over the years so I feel it’s my duty to society to provide that same support to the next person who is lost.
Well said! I have gained far more than my limited expertise enables me to contribute, but I do what I can to also pay it forward.
