I just upgraded to a Mac Studio - any must have apps that require Apple silicon?

I just upgraded from a 2019 27" iMac to an M2 Mac Studio. I recall coming across a couple of apps a while ago that looked interesting but wouldn’t run on an Intel Mac. Of course, I can’t remember what they were …

Is anyone using an Apple silicon-only app they’d recommend? Any must haves? Any nice to haves?

It’s very niche, but the app I use the most on my M1 Mac is the Channels DVR client to watch TV and movies, and to schedule recordings. The iOS/iPad app works just fine on the Mac.

I just fired up my three photo processing app yesterday (DXO Photolab, Lightroom, and Photoshop) and I can confirm that my M2 Mac Studio zips right through what my Intel iMac could barely manage.

Once I move my working files off of the external spinning disk where they currently live and on to the new Mac’s internal SSD, I suspect it will be even snappier.

Here are some of the apps I have installed via Homebrew:

alfred , iterm2, screenflow,
appcleaner, karabiner-elements, Skype,
barrier, keyboard-maestro, Slack,
bunch, messenger, textexpander,
descript, microsoft-teams, visual-studio-code,
fantastical,

Out of curiosity, why are you installing all of these apps via brew?

Hombrew is the Mac package manager. It’s by far the best way to install apps. No need to download, run and finally eject/delete DMG files. Simply run the terminal command brew install (application name).

Hombrew gives the feel of a Linux environment.

I migrated a fair number of these over from my Intel Mac. Is there anything on the list that requires Apple silicon to run? Not run better, but run at all. I suspect that more than a few “Mac with Apple silicon only” apps will be, in essence if not in fact, iOS apps.

I can’t say that there are any applications that require Apple silicon to run.
