I miss my avatars…

Recently bought a MBP M4 and had some problems with Safari. So I deleted my Library > Safari folder, problems went away, but all the avatars at the favorite bar got replaced by small earth globes… See screenshot.

Any idea on how to get them back (without reinstalling my Safari folder)?

:see_no_evil:

NO.

But, FWIW, I did find a discussion about this problem with Safari 11, and the files seem to be located in the same directories in Safari 18.1.1. YMMV

SOLVED – Missing Web Page Icons in BookMarks After Safari 11 Update OSX El Cap 10.11.6

Do the favicons perhaps get refreshed when you visit each of the pages?

I would try:
Emptying your Cache
Completely Quitting Safari
Visiting each site

Safari is really bad with favicons. For several sites I see an old cached favicon instead of the current one and I have no idea how to fix that either, so if I’m lucky a solution pops up here that solves my problem as well.

PS: I think they are called favicons or “Apple Touch Icon” (attached to web pages); not avatars (attached to users). Not trying to be pedantic, but using the right terminology might help if you want to research this on the internet.

FWIW they came back after the latest update.
