Ice as Bartender Replacement

In the newest MPU episode, Glenn Fleishman mentioned Ice as an alternative to Bartender (presumably because it is more secure). It is here: https://icemenubar.app/

He just mentioned it in passing, but does anyone know what would make it more secure than Bartender?

Thanks!

You can read about this kerfuffle here:

The short answer is probably that there is no security issue with Bartender. However, I’ve replaced Bartender with Ice as I find the new owners untrustworthy.

Ice is open source so anyone with the skills can check the code. Some unsettling things have happened with BT since it was sold. I’ve switched to Ice and am happy with it.

Used Ice since all the shenanigans with BT. It’s a good replacement and haven’t had any issues with it.

What would you consider a fair donation for this app? I want to be fair to the developer. And, what is the “safest” way to make a donation in a situation like this?

I would say the price of 3 years of bartender. I can’t remember the price, so might be something hard to estimate.
Safest way is through Gumroad, then PayPal.

If you open the Ice settings, there is a “Support Ice” button.

Bartender is US $20 for a license.
