IINA: To play all the tracks in the playlist with the same volume?

Is it possible in IINA to play all the tracks in the playlist — if some of them are louder than other — to play with the same actual volume? In other words, if the playlist consists of 10 tracks and the 5th track is significally louder than other, I don’t want to spill my seventeenth cup of coffee on the laptop.

Does anybody know?

I don’t use IINA, but it sounds like you’re looking for a setting to enable “Loudness Normalization” or “Normalize volume” for the playback / output.

I couldn’t find this setting in macOS directly, but it’s an option in my Tidal player.

More details at Wikipedia, as always:

Apple’s Music app (and the old iTunes app) have the Sound Check setting on the Playback tab to Automatically adjust playback volume to the same level.

Can’t speak to that app in particular, but in all the music players I’ve used over the years loudness normalization has always been a cruel joke. I’m assuming there’s something about it that makes it very difficult to do right. Dangit, in the dawn of time when I made mixtapes for people, I went through the effort, people! You’d think computers could do the same.

Okay, I got a reply on (at? in?) IINA GitHub discussions, and the answer is that it will be implemented in the next release:

This enhancement is in the current development version of IINA and will be in the next official release of IINA.
