I do not currently used Insteon devices but at one time I did. They always seemed to me like a fairly solid company.
This is quite surprising and disappointing.

Yikes. I would have thought local devices and automations could keep working.
I wonder how many other smart home brands need access to remote servers to simply function.
Sounds like another risk factor to consider when picking a system…
I’ve definitely gotten weary of depending too much on any one home automation vendor. Home Assistant has been a big help in tying together products from multiple manufacturers. Lately I’ve also been trying to go with Zigbee devices since it’s a vendor-neutral standard. Hopefully the Matter standard will help in the future.
