iOS Calendars vanished into thin air

ISSUE
Calendars simply vanished; not turned off, hidden…100% missing.

CAUSE
Unknown (possibly result of recent 18.4 update?) Miffed beyond belief.

CONFIGURATION
For reasons not worth debating here, calendars are not sync’d w/any services online. Calendars are 100% local to device.

BACKUPS
Yes, there is a backup about 2 months old (I’ll take it) and unclear how to actually extract JUST the calendar data to restore.

FIX?

Option 1: Backup iPhone, restore older phone backup to iPhone, export calendar info, restore today’s iPhone backup. Would really like to AVOID this method because it still comes w/a lot of repetitive configuration setup (ie. getting everything back into Apple Wallet.)

Option 2: Not sure if this is possible…restore iPhone file to an iPad, extract calendar data, restore iPad and then import calendar files to iPhone.

Anyone run into this? Thoughts?

Personal gripe soapbox ~ infuriated. Work, and two personal calendars (used to manage historical events as well as future events) vanished into thin air w/little-to-know action on my part. Apple doesn’t appear to offer an option to just restore ‘calendar’ data for example. Apple support only cares about iCloud and does not cater to those who decide not to participate w/iCloud services.

Maybe you can use iMazing 3 to recover your lost calendar data from that backup?

Oh good thinking! I will need to give that a shot…

Yikes. Sorry this happened and I hope the recovery idea works. I’d lose my mind with frustration!

Uodate for anyone in the future - restoring iPhone backup to iPad did not work (and it takes a crazy amount of time.)

Did you you try iMazing?

(I think that’s easier than restoring a backup to a physical device)

iMazing for getting the calendar data out then import into a desktop based calendar for review and update then sync back to the iOS device via cable.

Sorry for your problem. It’s true that with the exception of Time Machine Apple’s backup solutions are a joke. But you can export an .ics file which any calendar can import.

My data is on Google and I’ve never had a data loss, that I am aware of. But I still export my data on a regular basis,
