iPad Stage Manager Peculiarities

I’ve been using Stage Manager on my iPad for years now and I’m still surprised by some of the behavior. I’ve setup a number of workspaces that make sense to me. Two of them are just safari windows. One has two windows side by side so I can compare two things. I use this mostly for football picks, but it is useful for other things too. The other workspace has 1 full screen safari window and I use this for reading things where I want to use the whole screen.

But it is hard to switch between these two workspaces. In the recent app list on the right, the two Safari workspaces are stacked on top of each other, so there is no way to pick one of them from that view. Circled in red on screenshot.

Same thing in the app switcher (swiping up from bottom of screen). Circled in red on screenshot.

The only way I figured out how to switch is to tap safari in the dock, which will bring some random workspace with safari in it. If it isn’t the one I want, I tap again to show all safari windows and in this view, the two safari workspaces are separate and I can select the one I want.

How do you get Stage Manager or the app switcher to see two workspaces as different even when it is just one app?

As you mentioned, tap the app icon in dock or use the long press or right click on the dock to select “show all windows”. Easier and faster, if you are using an external keyboard, is to use Globe and the down arrow to show all windows of the current app then shift click it to add it to the current stage or just tap/click to switch to it. I suspect the multitasking shortcuts via the Globe key are often the fastest solution to some of these sorts of problems.

Thanks, I didn’t know about that globe key trick. That does make it easier.
