My late 2021 iPad Pro worked perfectly - until last night. I left the iPad unused on my desk for two hours with over 50% charge. When I returned the battery was flat and the iPad shut down. The iPad does not now seem to be charging. Despite using different chargers and cables, it does not go above 1% charge. The iPad has had no incidents that would cause damage.
Can anyone suggest a cause and solution?
If charging does not work above 1% charge with different cables and chargers, the battery may have died.
I have no idea what to do, except to contact Apple in order to have the battery checked and maybe even replaced…
Maybe, somebody else has a different ideas. Good luck!
It’s unlikely, but it’s also possible that the software that manages the battery status has become damaged (or a cache has been corrupted). Apple Support suggests a force restart:
And I wonder if a hard reset might be useful?
Force reset first…
Hard Reset as last only option (hopefully you have a recent iCloud backup) since it WILL erase all data from iPad.
Thanks to all who replied. I appreciate your comments.
I have no idea what happened, but the problem has resolved itself. I could not get the iPad to charge for most of yesterday, and I have no explanation for the power loss the previous day.
Then, equally inexplicably, the iPad started to charge. Since then it has operated perfectly.
I am sorry to have wasted anyone’s time, but when I wrote the post it looked like my iPad had died.
I will give an update if the problem recurs. I do have iCloud back-up.
What a great outcome, let’s hope it stays that way for you. I’ve had a similar issue in the past with an older iPad Pro (pre M1), that just came good after two days. My kids still use that device to this day.
I’m hoping my M1 iPad doesn’t read this post and start getting ideas, mind you if it were to stop working, one of the new thinner iPad Pro’s wouldn’t take long to arrive I’m sure. Mind you a replacement battery might also be an option, because the M1 is still going along so very strongly.
I’ve “fixed” a user’s computer by rebooting it, or doing something else as simple, on many occasions. Only to hear them say “I did the same thing as you (X times) and nothing happen. What did you do?” My answer was usually something like “Today that needed to be done, one more time”.
Take the win
I had a weird issue once where a “smart” charger, got it in its head that my device was completely charged, and just stopped charging it. Same type of symptoms. Glad you got it sorted out!
